YOU ARE ABLE TO SEE WHAT WE HAVE DONE SO FAR. WE ARE WORKING HARD TO CREATE CONTENT AS FAST AS WE CAN. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING THAT IS MISSING FROM THIS WEBSITE, PLEASE CONTACT US BY PRESSING THE BUTTON BELOW.
From drop-in, centre to arranged support groups, we aim to create a hub in Chelmsford where other groups and support organisations can use our venue for meetings, events, social interaction, fund raising, and informal nights out together.
We are (left to right) Kirsty and Lilly, a transgender married couple. We have both faced discrimination, hate crimes, work related bullying, and have feared showing our true selves to society. We know how it feels to be vulnerable and scared of those who wish to make us feel that way. We know how it feels to feel isolated with no one to turn to. However, we have combated that fear, and now we both stand proud with confidence and resolve. This was achieved by having a great support network and some professional counselling.
After opening an LGBTQ+ Bar and coffee shop, which has an 'all welcome ethos,' that is nothing like the usual British pub. Bar Plus https://bar.plus was designed by Kirsty, a qualified designer, who created a venue for women and the queer community. We have had so many people come to the bar ask if we know of anywhere to go to talk about personal issues that were stressful due to pressures for fitting into society, or because of phobic comments online [to name just two examples] that we have decided to start up 'speak safely' with an aim to renovate the venue outbuildings into a dedicated meeting place, drop-in centre, and support group meeting venue.
We are here for anyone who needs a listening ear. Until our drop-in centre is created, we use the un-lived in accommodation above the pub, for privacy, so that a person can share their feelings in a secure place where what is said is totally confidential. We also offer our venue for support groups and organisations to use exclusively, or publicly. Whatever, your requirements are, we are confident that we can cater for them.
We aim to be Chelmsford and Essex go-to-place for anyone with issues relating to social and personal pressures because they do not fit the norm, or are vulnerable for whatever reason. Our small venue in Moulsham street, Chelmsford, in the heart of Essex, is in the planning stage of renovation of it's outbuildings to become a hub for safety and a secure place to unload your problems and seek help in finding solutions. We are also looking for professional counsellors, lawyers, medics, life-coaches, to volunteer their spare time to lend a hand with giving specialised advice and guidance to those who may need it.
